Isn’t the fashion affected?

Edo people hated being called “Kiza” (affectation) the most. “Kiza” is written as 気障(in kanji) and it is not jagged, prickled and roughen, but it refers to a state of 気障り ( kizawari=disgusting) for people and has been used as an example of a person who has no delicacy in modern times. On the other hand, the aesthetics that the Edo people liked, such as “IKI” (Chic) and “TSUU” (Connoisseur), seemed to be like superb, delicious, clean water that wasn’t unclear. “Kiza” is the opposite taste of water.

Edo people like both joke and puns, but this joking meant as exposed to the wind rain and sun that is “exposed ” for a long time, and it becomes bleached and “play ” is playful and light not serious, playing is considered tactful and smart. From these meanings, 洒落る(sha-reru=smart, stylishly) was born as a synonym for “Sophisticated”, “Attractive”, and “Refined”, and an Edo witty spirited culture was born.

Edokko (Edo people) likes to be cleanly and likes to be said as “Akanuke shiteiru”(removed dirt and refined) more than anything else, and takes a bath at least twice, before work in the morning and after work (every day) The person who entered five times had purchased a one-month free pass called “Hagaki”(coupon ticket). And after the bath, is a cotton “Yukata”, and washed & bleached cotton yukata became everyday wear for the common people in the Edo period.

Even nowadays, not only Edokko, cotton-washed clothes are worn by both young and old. IKIJI’s cotton polo shirts are the right clothes that have inherited the witty spirit of Edokko today. IKIJI polo shirts using high-quality cotton that feels better as you wash it, special order reception will be held at IKIJI Ryogoku store on Saturday, September 7th.
