Style of IKIJI Part14

Kanoko

Doing and finishing a simple job is often called “Ochano-Ko-Saisai”, saying in other words “Asa-meshi-mae” (Before Breakfast), as not eaten yet, no hard work but easy one, at the same time, “Chagayu”(rice porridge) used to be called “Ochanoko”, and it was said as “Ochano-Ko-Saisai”. Another interpretation is from “Tea Confectionery” which is not served at a tea ceremony but served at tea time to commonalty. Easy confectionery and easy eating, as a metaphor, I think it has become “Ochano-Ko-Saisai”.

Speaking of tea confectionery, my favorite is Kanoko. “Gyuhi”(glutinous rice cake) is wrapped in globular shape with bean paste and the top is made up with sweetened red bean. It was a favorite confectionery for my grandmother, so I often bought and ate it together. This is all year round, but it won’t be missed. In autumn, there will be a limited edition “Kuri-Kanoko” with chestnuts scattered between sweetened red beans. This is also delicious with the autumn flavor.

Speaking of Kanoko, IKIJI’s main product, the polo shirt, is called Kanoko knitting. By knitting the front and back alternately in the vertical and horizontal directions, a knitted fabric with that unique irregularity is created. That surface is gentle on the skin and has the function of absorbing moisture and quick drying. This IKIJI Kanoko polo shirt is lined up in our store throughout the year as a standard product. Those who enjoy sports, those who travel to southern countries in winter, are useful.

Yes, this isn’t Kuri-Kanoko, but this autumn-only polo shirt from IKIJI is a long-sleeved polo shirt with a rough Kanoko’s stitch. It’s best to wear as it is in the autumn, but if it comes winter you can wear under the coat, it will have excellent heat retention, so I think it will be the best one in this autumn and winter. Two colors are available: light gray ash and blue-brown mix of “Aokachi” (name of the color). This polo shirt is a masterpiece of IKIJI that can’t be done with an easy job

Note:

  • Kanoko : the name of Japanese confectionery
  • Kanoko : the name of knitting (construction) called as Pique in French word and backstitched (or moss stitched) in English.
  • Kanoko : the origin of the word “Kanoko” came from “white spotted pattern of the deer”.
